National Basic Science Data Center (referred to as “NBSDC”) was developed basing on a national science and technology resource sharing platform established by 42 research institutions affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (referred to as “CAS”) , Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Transport and other organizations.

Overview of data solutions

Resources

With more than 20-year preliminary work of scientific data, NBSDC has systematically integrated basic sciences data covering eight disciplines, three regions and frontier research areas. NBSDC has accumulated a total of over 2.7 PB of data resources including 2 sub-centers and 23 subject databases.

Achievements

NBSDC has developed 34 management specifications, 57 technical standards and 30 national standards for scientific data, provided services to more than 2,000 key research projects, with more than 10,000 citations in research papers. In 2021, NBSDC’s work was applauded and exhibited in the “China’s Scientific and Technologic Innovation Achievements Exhibition during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period” and “CAS’s Informatization Achievements Exhibition during the 13th Five-Year Plan Period”. In 2021 and 2022, NBSDC was applauded as one of the “CAS’s Top 10 Scientific Data Work Advances”. In 2022, CODATA Data Ethics working group was established, which was initiated by the director of NBSDC.

The portal of NBSDC

NBSDC provides one-stop solution and comprehensive technical support based on its advanced cloud computing and cloud storage infrastructure, developing a service system that integrates “data, information and knowledge” based on the G-FAIR principle. Data services provided by NBSDC include data archiving and sharing, data analysis and mining services etc., with 155 thousand registered users, a total of 198,670.4 thousand visits and data downloads of a total of 2163.56TB.
